The Intermar family, including ICC Cargo, proudly celebrated its 40th anniversary this past weekend with a vibrant evening of recognition, music, and reflection at the Aleeze Convention Center in St. Maarten. It was a celebration not just of years in business—but of an evolving legacy built on trust, precision, and logistical excellence in the Caribbean.
ICC Cargo, the logistics arm of Intermar, plays a vital role in the region’s supply chain. Originally operating under the name Nichirei, the company was acquired by George Pelgrim and rebranded as ICC—short for Intermar Container Company—to meet the island’s growing demand for structured, reliable cargo solutions. Today, ICC handles thousands of TEUs annually and manages key import and export services at the Port of St. Maarten.
The 40-year celebration marked a turning point—an acknowledgment of how far we've come since the 1980s, when tuna shipments and basic vessel logistics defined port operations. From that humble origin, Intermar and ICC have grown into a modern logistics powerhouse, trusted by shipping lines, freight forwarders, and international partners across the Northeastern Caribbean.
During the event, Intermar President and founder George Pelgrim paid tribute to the journey, recognizing dozens of long-serving employees, partners, and community allies. Several ICC staff members were among those honored for their critical roles in streamlining container handling, customs coordination, and warehousing through the years. A slideshow presentation documented the dramatic changes in infrastructure and operations, including the complete rebuild of the ICC Cargo facility following Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The modern ICC terminal now serves as a central hub for cargo services, featuring upgraded security, advanced logistics software, and a dedicated team of trained professionals. These improvements are a direct result of Intermar’s long-term vision and ICC’s commitment to efficiency and client satisfaction.
The evening also spotlighted Intermar’s deep-rooted commitment to the St. Maarten community. Two donations totaling $5,000 were made to support local food assistance and student breakfast programs—reinforcing the principle that strong logistics isn’t just about moving goods, but about uplifting the communities they serve.
For the ICC team, the celebration was both a moment of pride and a challenge to keep innovating. As global supply chains become more complex, our role becomes even more vital. We’re embracing automation, expanding capacity, and doubling down on customer service to ensure that ICC remains the island’s most trusted logistics partner.
Here’s to 40 years of moving containers—and to a future of moving logistics forward with purpose.
